我祇希望小鳥飛得遠遠，　　I have wished a bird would fly away,
不要竟日吱喳在我門前。　　And not sing by my house all day;

我曾經在門口對牠擊掌，　　Have clapped my hands at him from the door,
似乎已不耐於鳥的歌唱。　　When it seemed as if I could bear no more.

想來必是部份責任在我，　　The fault must partly have been in me,
鳥兒的鳴囀本無過錯。　　　The bird was not to blame for his key.

當然我難免有點兒冒失，　　And of course there must be something wrong,
試想將任何的歌曲休止。　　In wanting to silence any song.

自然的新綠是金，　　Nature’s first green is gold,
鮮美色彩難保存。　　Her hardest hue to hold.
